This work of art was commissioned by the City Officials of Lucca, Tuscany, Italy on the fiftieth anniversary of the death of the great composer, Giacomo Puccini. Puccini was born in Lucca in 1858.
Benvenuti was born in Lucca in 1939.
The Women of Puccini’s Opera was created in very limited signed and numbered serigraphs, only fifty serigraphs were made. A traveling exhibition of Benvenuti’s art reflecting the works of Puccini was set forth in 1974. The art was exhibited in many important locations including but not limited to the Lyric Opera in Chicago, and Madrid Opera in Spain.
